Anyone have experience with the Mazda5, 3 or really just any C1 platform car?

Not really a whole lot to watch out for, #3 motor mount is the most common issue but easy to replace, it's the one above the drive belt on the left side of the engine bay.

Yeah, I figure most of the bushings/mounting points etc are similar enough to at least glean some info from it.

Make sure you get a facelifted car (08+). Pre-facelift 3s and 5s are severely rust prone. Additionally, the facelift got a 5-speed auto and an auxiliary jack on the radio.
Don’t expect to get great gas mileage. The 2.3 MZR is a good engine (timing chain ftw), but a bit thirstier than equivalent Honda/Toyota motors. I get 23-26 mpg city and 28-30 mpg highway in my stick-shift 3 depending on how I drive.
The motor mount Kahlbali mentioned is an issue. If you end up needing a replacement, go for the ROCA solid rubber mount. No added NVH and you don’t have to worry about the fluid leaking out like the OEM part.
Any other questions?

Compared to the 16-19 the Murano had, I’m sure that even the low combined estimate (22-23) will be fine.
I’ve seen that most 3 suspension bits work on the 5 and obviously the drivetrain. Are there any tricks/parts to improve clutch feel? I test drove an 07 a few months ago and the clutch was... Modern. There’s enough pros to still likely go with the stick, but the experience isn’t one of them. But if the choice boils down to sunroof/heated seats etc or manual I may go to the dark side.

I haven’t looked into modifying the clutch at all. It’s so much better than what I had before that I’ve always been happy with it.
It’s not hard to find a 3 GT with all the bells and whistles and a stick if you’re willing to travel, but I believe the 5 Touring and GT had the auto standard.

The 07 I test drove was a touring stick. But I'm sure that combo was ixnayed on the update.

I bought a 2013 Mazda5 last year to transport my parents and their two wheelchairs, even though I swore after an earlier Dodge Caravan that I would never drive another minivan again. What a surprise!
The Mazda5 is a mini-minivan, which means it holds one less adult, but because it is smaller and lighter than a full-sized minivan, it actually corners OK. I can appreciate the suspension that is on all the small Mazdas that I have driven, because they all corner hard, even though they all seem to be as tippy as sailboats.
I’m much more careful taking blind corners in my Mazda5 than I am in my Miata, because the M5 does not handle transitions or sudden braking very well. But it is very surprising and rewarding in steady-state cornering!
